Transloadit onboarding redesign / 2022–2023
Transloadit, a powerful file-processing API, needed a smoother onboarding experience to help new users get started quickly and efficiently. I led the redesign of the onboarding flow, focusing on usability and clarity.
The previous onboarding process featured a 5-step Wizard that often overwhelmed users with too many questions upfront. Our goal was to create a shorter, more engaging path to the “aha moment” — processing files as the user needs.
We reduced the number of steps from five to just two, focusing on what mattered most: asking users what files they want to process and what they want to do with them.
To make the process more interactive and educational, we displayed file processing instructions (JSON code) in the sidebar. As users toggle options, the code updates in real-time, helping them follow its logic and build understanding step by step.
The results were outstanding: the new onboarding process doubled the number of users creating their first Template and running their first Assembly — both critical metrics for Transloadit’s success.
Special thanks to Nick Rutten for amazing front-end work.
